Early Voting, Registering to Vote, and Election Day: FAQs
Although we do not have early voting at the Town Hall, Canosia residents can vote early in-person at the St. Louis County Courthouse (100 N. 5th Ave. W, 2nd floor). They are open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. M-F. You can also register to vote at the courthouse if you are voting early. If you have any questions about this option, please call the County Elections Division at 726-2385.
It’s also not too late to “vote from home” (absentee). To request a ballot, visit www.mnvotes.org. If you get into a time crunch, absentee ballots can be dropped off at the courthouse in the Elections office or at the dropbox at the courthouse’s 2nd Street address.
If you need to register to vote on Election Day, come prepared! You will need proof of your Canosia Township address. If you have current/valid photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, state ID, tribal ID) with your Canosia Address, just bring that!
If you don’t have a current ID, bring another photo ID (e.g., expired license or passport) PLUS proof of your current residence. This could be a utility bill, rental agreement, internet bill, etc. (NOT a property tax statement). Your proof of residence must be dated within 30 days of the election and be in your name (not a spouse or parent).
Another option: a registered Canosia voter can accompany you to the polls and sign an oath “vouching” for your township address. For additional details on these options and a few other options, click here for an Election Day registration fact sheet.
Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day. Be prepared for a chilly wait outside. For information on pandemic-related protocols, (including one-way traffic into the town hall), pleaseĀ click here to review our township election checklist.
Most importantly, don’t hesitate to call the clerk (Susan) with any questions or concerns! 590 6746!
